Community Quilting for Kids

May 19 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Learn to quilt AND stitch yourself into history! This youth crafting program, perfect for kids aged 4-14, is the launch event for our new MSJE Community Quilt project, Stitched Apart, Sewn Together, which calls on quilters from all over the region to add their own colorful square of Southern Jewish experience to a brand-new community quilt inspired by one of our signature collection items, the 1885 Crazy Quilt from Canton, Mississippi.

During the 1.5-hour workshop at the Museum on May 19th, kids will learn quilting basics and create a keepsake square made of felt to take home, plus design and sew a cotton square to be added to our Community Quilt – giving each participant the opportunity to be part of making an actual museum piece!

With snacks and creative stations for all ages, this is a wonderful chance for kids to learn a valuable crafting skill while thinking about how they fit into the Southern Jewish experience. Younger children are welcome but will need support from caregivers to participate.

Non-MSJE Members: $10/child
MSJE Members: $5/child
